Magisterial inquiry rejected

Bhubaneswar: Gandhamardhan Surakshya Yuva Parishad on Thursday rejected magisterial inquiry on the alleged fake encounter case in which two of its activists were allegedly killed by the police. “Baragarh superintendent of police should be immediately suspended and an FIR should be lodged against those police officers involved in the fake encounter,” said president of the association Pradeep Purohit. Purohit alleged that their activists Madha Singh and Ramesh Sahu were killed by police as they had opposed the government’s move to hand over the Gandhamardhan hills for mining purposes. The association also demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation to the family members of the deceased and demanded a CBI inquiry into the case.

Farmer beaten

Bhubaneswar: A mill owner allegedly assaulted a farmer from Balangir on Thursday when the former tried to protest the price he was being charged for his paddy. ccording to reports, Jogeswar Patra had reached the government mundi to sell his paddy when the government official in charge forced him to go to a particular mill. Patra was allegedly assaulted when he argued with the mill owner. n FIR has been launched at the Balangir sadar police station regarding the case.

Autopsy done

Bhubaneswar: The Keonjhar police has on Thursday completed postmortem on the bodies of the two Maoists who were shot dead in a gunfight on January 12. The postmortems were done in the presence of a magistrate. lthough the bodies have been identified, no one has come forward to claim the bodies so far. he bodies will be kept for three more days and thereafter the last rites will be held, said a police officer.

Dowry death

Bhubaneswar: The Berhampur police on Thursday arrested four persons in connection with a dowry death case. Parents of 30-year-old Tankeshwari Patra, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Thursday alleged that she was being tortured for dowry by her husband and in-laws. Police have arrested Patra’s husband and in-laws, and are investigating the case.

Drunk doctor

Bhubaneswar: Tension gripped Employees State Dispensary in Paradip on Thursday after there were allegations that the doctor on duty was drunk. Patients gheraoed the dispensary for over two hours demanding removal of the doctor. The dispensary authorities, however, rubbished the allegations.

Officers axed

Bhubaneswar: At least 29 public servants were dismissed from government service in 2010 after being convicted by the various vigilance courts for their involvement in several cases.
