Molest slur on official

Sambalpur: A senior official of the mass education department was arrested on Monday for allegedly molesting girls of seventh standard in Gandaghora Nodal Upper Primary School in Jharsuguda district. A case had been registered with the Brajaraj Nagar police station against Srikant Paikrai, deputy director, state council of educational research and training.

The incident had taken place on August 3. It has been alleged that the accused had entered a classroom where a teacher was checking note books in the presence of some students. It has been alleged that he molested several students while asking questions.

Agri credit

Bhubaneswar: Chief secretary Bijay Patnaik on Monday asked district collectors to prioritise agricultural sector while evaluating credit performance of banks. He also asked the collectors to actively participate in the preparation of annual credit plans of banks in their respective districts and ensure that the state targets were reflected in it. For the current year, the annual credit target has been raised to Rs 25,000 crore out of which nearly Rs 13,000 crore has been allocated for agricultural and allied sectors.

Tele-marketing

Bhubaneswar: Till date, nearly 161 farmers belonging to 17 districts of the state have been registered in the tele-marketing process of agricultural products. The state government has implemented tele-marketing facility since June 17. The maximum number of 31 registrations was recorded in Cuttack district followed by 26 in Puri district.

Clean chit

Bhubaneswar: The Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has given the police a clean chit in the lathi-charge on the activists of Kalinga Sena, a local political outfit on March 15 last year. The Sena men were protesting at the Biju Pattnaik airport against the participation of Australian players in the Indian Premier League.

PDS wheat

Bhubaneswar: From now, people living above poverty line will get 10 kg of wheat through the public distribution system. People living in rural area and urban areas can avail the benefit of the scheme. The government has also directed district collectors to keep a watch on the distribution process.

Police stations

Bhubaneswar: As many as 70 modern police stations will be set up in Maoist-affected areas of the state. Each police station will be built for Rs 2 crore. While the Centre will provide 80 per cent of the funds, the state government will provide the remaining part.

Ramesh visit

Bhubaneswar: Union minister for rural development Jairam Ramesh would be visiting Orissa on Saturday and Sunday to review the rural development programmes in Maoist-affected districts including Ganjam (Berhampur) and Kandhamal (Phulbani).
