Bhubaneswar: Health secretary Anu Garg, inaugurating a seminar organised on occasion of World Health Day 2011 by the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday, asked for creating awareness among health practitioners to get control over the ever-increasing incidences of anti-microbial resistance by judicious use of antibiotics. “In Orissa, we encounter drug resistance in the spheres of diseases like tuberculosis, malaria and typhoid. These diseases are resistant to some drugs or antibiotics. So it is our duty to act upon this issue and create awareness among the health care providers and in the society as a whole so that the problem of drug resistance is minimised and we could ensure a safe future for the coming generations,” she said. Bhubaneswar: Thirty-five accused, including a woman, were on Thursday acquitted in the Nilgiri sub-collector office burning case in Balasore. The SDJM court acquitted all the accused because of lack of evidence. The son of sub-collector Sarat Mohanty had allegedly killed a peon by hitting him with a cricket bat in March 2004. This had angered the local residents and they allegedly set the ilgiri sub-collector’s ffice on fire. Bhubaneswar: Puri police on Thursday arrested three more persons in connection with the loot in Emaar Mutt. They have been identified as Shyam pawar, Lal pawar and Benudhar Sahoo. About 10kg of silver and Rs 5 lakh were recovered from their possession, said police. The trio will be grilled for more information on the siphoning out of large quantities of silver ingots from the mutt premises.
