Umerkote Assembly bypoll

Bhubaneswar: Election Commission of India announced the date of bypoll for Umerkote Assembly constituency on Tuesday. The notification for the bypoll will be issued by the commission on November 5. Nomination papers will have to be filed by November 12 for the polls that will be held on November 30. Counting of votes will be conducted on December 4. The Assembly seat is currently lying vacant following the death of sitting MLA Jagabandhu Majhi on September 24. Majhi, the 39-year-old MLA, was allegedly shot dead by Maoists. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik described the incident as a “savage act”.

Results

Bhubaneswar: Results of the High School Certificate Supplementary Examinations-2011 results will be published tomorrow. The results, which were supposed to be out earlier, were delayed because of the recent floods. The results will be available in www.bseorissa.in and www.orissaresults.nic.in. In another development, matriculation exams in the state would be postponed by a month because of the panchayat polls that will be held in February, said an officer of the Board of Secondary Education.

Cuttack: Haladhar Behera has been appointed the captain of Orissa Ranji team for the current season. Haladhar, a wicketkeeper-cum-batsman, was part of Deccan Chargers in the first edition of the Indian Premier League. Nataraj Behera has been appointed as his deputy.
