Bhubaneswar: Biramitrapur legislator, George Tirkey, along with 300 workers of a private industrial unit, were arrested near Rourkela on Wednesday from Lathikata in Sundargarh. hey had been squatting on National Highway (NH)-23 in front of the factory demanding payment of salary of the past 12 months. The workers also alleged that the plant management had not deposited their provident fund for the past the five years. The workers under the leadership of Tirkey had been sitting in front of the deputy labour commissioner’s office to press their demand. Bhubaneswar: The state general administration department on Wednesday carried out a joint demolition drive in ward No. 47 near Palaspalli where the local councillor had encroached on a government land. The authorities carried out the court order to carry out the demolition drive. “It was an old case and a neighbour of the councillor had gone to the court alleging encroachment. The court order was executed when the general administration department sought our cooperation,” said a senior official of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. Cuttack: A four-year-old girl on Wednesday died after being swept away in the main storm water channel No.1 at Sutahat. The deceased has been identified as Ankita Nayak of Sutahat New Colony. ccording to the family, the girl had gone to the Anganwadi School in the morning. However, she was washed away after she fell into the drain at around 9:30am. Though a massive rescue operation was launched, the girl could not be traced. However, the body was recovered from near Prabhat Cinema area in the evening. Bhubaneswar: In view to clear additional rush during Puja season, East Coast Railway has decided to run more pairs of weekly Puja special trains between Bhubaneswar and Tirupati, Puri and Bangalore, Howrah and Mysore, Shalimar and Tirupati, Hyderabad and Santragachi and Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam from and through ECoR jurisdiction. he services will be available from September 9 to December 31.
