Oram checks out smart city projects

Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram on Wednesday reviewed the progress of various smart city projects executed by the Rourkela Smart City Limited (RSCL) and also the underground sewerage system currently going on in the town.

Rourkela: Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram on Wednesday reviewed the progress of various smart city projects executed by the Rourkela Smart City Limited (RSCL) and also the underground sewerage system currently going on in the town.

Oram, who is the local Lok Sabha Member, was apprised of the development of various projects by chief executive officer of RSCL Rashmita Panda.

Panda said: "We have already installed 9,000 LED bulbs of the total target of 12,000. We informed the minister that the remaining would be done by the end of this month. Oram showed keen interest in the pink auto project for women. We told him that this has been started to provide livelihood to women in the city and also to ensure safety of women travellers. We have 21 lady auto drivers plying on the streets."

The minister was informed about the progress of the Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium.

"The stadium will be completed by the end of this year. There are plans to provide infrastructure for many other games along with badminton. Tenders have been invited for six public utility parks. Besides, the detailed project report for the second phase of the indoor stadium, the smart road construction from Ambedkar Square till Panposh Square, the Bisra Stadium, multi-level parking at Bisra square, smart solution for effective traffic management have already been prepared.

The tender for these projects will be initiated in the month of August," Panda said.

He said that so far 74 kilometres of underground pipelines had been laid in the city against the desired target of 186 kilometres.

"We informed him about the fast progress being made at the Balughat Sewage Treatment Plant. Seventy per cent work of the project is already done. Work on the Pradhanpalli pumping station has also begun," said Panda.

Oram expressed happiness over the progress of various projects. The minister was also informed that a city app would shortly be made operational.
