Lack of blood costs woman’s life

Berhampur: A 25-year-old woman delivered a girl child at Aska hospital on Wednesday and died later at MKCG hospital in the afternoon due to non-availability of blood in the blood bank here. ayanti Barik, wife of Sanyasi Barik of Sahaspur in Aska, suffered profuse bleeding after the delivery. She was referred to MKCG as Aska hospital did not have a blood bank. The blood group of Jayanti was O+, but there was no stock of that group of blood, according to the blood bank sources.ayanti’s neighbour Ramchandra Swain gave his blood A+ for exchange. But, by the time the blood bank authority managed to arrange a blood unit for her she was dead. Jayanti was the mother of a one-and-a-half-year-old son. KCG superintendent Ashok Kumar Behera said: “Jayanti was in post portom hemorrhage (PPH) condition and required blood within one hour.”

Titanium plant

Bhubaneswar: National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Rare Earths Ltd (IREL), under the department of atomic energy for jointly establishing a titanium slag plant of one lakh tonne capacity at Odisha Sand Complex in Chatrapur.

Gang-rape

Kendrapara: Police took into custody two persons, who had allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped a 28-year-old married Dalit woman in the district. The accused have been identified as Saraju Mallick and Tukuna Mallick of Badagaon village. The police are looking for another man involved in the crime.

Burnt alive

Paradip: A 23-year-old newly married woman was allegedly burnt alive on dowry related ground at Madhapur village on the outskirts of Jagatsinghpur on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Anupama Mishra, suffered over 90 per cent burn injury. Local people rescued the woman from her in-laws’ house and rushed to government hospital. But, she was declared brought dead by the hospital authorities.ictim’s spouse and in-laws have been arrested.

Withdrawal

Bhubaneswar: The ambitious community college scheme by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has been rolled out of Odisha. The commission first withdrew the community college proposal from FM Autonomous College, Balasore and subsequently sent a withdrawal letter for other colleges earlier this week. Odisha was supposed to open seven community colleges at various parts of the state providing job-ready courses and inculcating entrepreneurship quality among students.

Bhubaneswar: The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Odisha State Council in association with UK Trade and Investment organised a seminar for entrepreneurs and start-ups from the state to explore business opportunities in the United Kingdom.he session included presentations on trade and investment opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, agriculture and allied services, pharmaceutical and healthcare, consumer goods and IT services.

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs, a non-profit trade group, organised a meeting of young entrepreneurs on Wednesday. The event, titled Entrepreneurship Arena, provided a platform to young entrepreneurs to showcase their products and present their business plan to the mentors.
