Rourkela: Sundergarh police had a harrowing time on Wednesday when two of its officials were abducted by goons. However, the police authorities heaved a sigh of relief when the two abducted cops were released unscathed late on Wednesday night. A gang of 11 goons from Rourkela, Sundergarh, Rajgangpur and Jharkhand had robbed a petrol pump of Rs 3.5 lakh at Belpahar last month. On a tip off that the same gang was hiding in a nearby jungle, two police teams rushed to nab the gang. The goons abducted Sundergarh sadar police station officer in charge B.D. Sankhwal and assistant sub-inspector Lochan Nayak near Sabdega forest range. Later, the goons released them after snatching their service revolvers. Two members of the gang, Kishan Gop and Ganesh Das, were arrested as a combing operation was launched later to nab the goons. Sambalpur: Excise officials on Thursday arrested a woman and seized 21kg ganja from her house at Raeli in the Rairakhol police station area in this district. The woman has been identified as Supa Majhi. The market price of the seized ganja would be more than one lakh rupees. Majhi has been forwarded to court. Rourkela: Local police on Thursday arrested two alleged Maoists and seized arms and ammunition from their possession. They have been identified as Bishram alias Sudhir Bhuiyan, 24, and Habil Horo, 23. They were involved in the loot Rs 49 lakh from a vehicle of the State Bank of India, Barsuan branch on August 6, 2010. Rourkela: Noted gynaecologist Dr Bindulata Acharya passed away at her Koel Nagar residence here on Thursday morning. She was 75. She succumbed to hypoglycaemia and cardiac arrest.
