Kendrapara: A six-month-old baby girl was burnt alive and her parents sustained burn injury when their house caught fire at Derabish in Kendrapara on Saturday night. The fire was suspected to have emanated from a mosquito coil when they were asleep inside the house. The local people managed to rescue the couple. However, the baby was charred to death. The couple was first admitted to district headquarters hospital and later SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Rourkela: A person accused in an attempted-robbery incident was arrested from a petrol pump here on Sunday. The police have seized one pistol and four rounds of live ammunition from the accused. The criminal, along with his three aids, had tried to loot a petrol pump at Barasuan in the city. Other three goons are absconding. Dhenkanal: A three-year-old elephant calf was found dead at Mahadpada in the Sarangi forest range of Dhenkanal district on Sunday. While the forest officials are yet to ascertain the cause of death, local residents suspected the calf died because of electrocution. Its mother was standing by the body till afternoon, and after it left the dead calf, the forest officials took away the dead body for post-mortem. Bhubaneswar: The fourth annual general meeting of the East Coast Railway Engineer’s Association was held here on Sunday. The meeting discussed various demands of the engineers such as hike in pay scale of diploma and degree engineers and upgrade of the Group B gazetted cadres. A seminar on Role of Engineers in Development of Railways was also held on the occasion. Many senior officials, including association president Sudhamay Bajpai and general secretary Bobin Mohanty, were present. Bhubaneswar: The district administration and the multidisciplinary squads conducted a raid on various medicine shops at Jeypore in Koraput district. The raid was conducted to find out excess amount of alcohol in medicines available in the open market. he squad has also sent some samples to the laboratory for testing.
