Bhubaneswar: Vedanta’s alumina plant at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi, which had been closed in December last year due to shortage of raw materials, resumed partial operations on Thursday. Procuring bauxite from various parts of the country, it started its captive power plant as well on its premises. Bhubaneswar: The state government has taken over the Uliburu mines owned by B.K. Mohanty in Keonjhar district and asked the Odisha Mining Corporation to dispose of the iron ore dumped at the site. The mine had become controversial following allegations of illegal excavation. Justice MB Shah Commission had also brought this mine under its scanner. Bhubaneswar: Centralised counselling for rank holders of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test will be held in the state capital between July 21 and 25. Over 11,000 medical aspirants from Odisha had qualified the test. The counselling will take place for the 85 per cent seats reserved in medical colleges of the state for domiciled candidates. Admissions will be based on a percentile basis. Bhubaneswar: A software engineer in her late 20s filed a sexual harassment case in Orissa High Court against a senior colleague. She alleged that she had earlier approached the state commission for women (SCW) but no action was taken. SWC authorities said they would conduct an inquiry into the matter. Bhubaneswar: A baby snake was caught from the Odisha Assembly premises on Thursday. Assembly staff spotted the snake and called snake helpline volunteers who caught the reptile and released it into the wild. They suspect the presence of more snakes on the compound. Cuttack: Students and guardians staged a demonstration outside Khannagar High School alleging that mid-day meals were not being provided in the school for the past six months while stocks of over eight quintals of rice had been damaged.
