Bhubaneswar: Two unidentified youths looted gold ornaments worth Rs 20 lakh from a jewellery shop at VSS Nagar by drugging the shop owner on Thursday. They added intoxicant in cold drink and decamped with gold ornaments as the shop owner fell unconscious. Kailash Chandra Senapati was in his shop with his son Deepak Kumar Senapati the incident happened. “The shop did not have any CCTV. We have started a probe,” said an officer of Saheed Nagar police.

Barsa visit

Cuttack: Barsa Swony Choudhury, the estranged daughter-in-law of former law minister Raghunath Mohanty, met Human Rights Protection Cell officials on Thursday and urged them to expedite the process of filing of chargesheet in connection with the dowry torture case filed by her. Barsa and her family members met HRPC chief and additional director general of police, Crime Branch, B.K. Sharma. Sharma said the matter would be looked into.

Poll tension

Bhubaneswar: Tension erupted at Rental Colony in ward No. 15 after the declaration of the Bhubaneswar civic body poll results. Supporters of an Independent candidate, who emerged winner, alleged that supporters of BJD candidate attacked them.
