Private high schools to get direct grant

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Friday announced in the Assembly that direct grant would be given to private high schools of the state instead of block-grant (lump sum grant) from 2013-14. School and mass education minister Rabi Narayan Nanda said new grant-in-policy would be formulated within two months. Priority will be given to schools receiving block grant since past eight years, he said.

Rape slur

BHUBANESWAR: A dowry torture victim on Friday lodged a complaint against the sub-inspector of Rayagada town police station Ranjit Patnaik alleging that he raped her. The sub-inspector, who was the investigating officer for her case, threatened and raped her, said the woman.

Prisoner flees

BHUBANESWAR: An inmate of Angul jail escaped from the prison on Friday, leading to the suspension of the jail warder. The inmate Bijay Behera, a murder accused, escaped because of negligence of the warder, said a senior jail official said.

Bhubaneswar: Drawing flak from several quarters after installation of CCTV cameras on Puri beach, the district administration on Friday stalled recording of footages.
