Strict vigil on kilns

Bhubaneswar: The state government directed all district collectors to be strict about brick kilns operating near rivers as they cause pollution to the water bodies and harm the ecology, said a revenue department official. Earlier, tehsildars had been asked to collect fine from the kiln owners, who flouted the rule.

Explosives

Rourkela: Security forces seized explosives and other materials during a combing operation in the district on the eve of Martyrs’ Day. The jawans are guarding railway lines, keeping a strict vigil on bordering areas and movement of cross border vehicles.

Convicted

Balasore: A local court convicted two siblings in a 2011 murder case and awarded life imprisonment to them along with Rs 5,000 penalty each and in default, six months jail. Panda Hembram, 21, and Kalia Hembram, 19, killed their maternal uncle over domestic dispute.

De-freeze plea

Bhubaneswar: The legal advisor to fraud deposit collection company Seashore Group said a petition had been filed in Orissa High Court seeking de-freezing of 126 bank accounts of the company seized by the crime branch.

Body on tracks

Bhubaneswar: Government Railway Police recovered a youth’s body from railway tracks 300 metres from Bhubaneswar railway station. Manoj Saha of Muzaffarpur in Bihar fell from the Muzaffarpur-Bangalore Express and was crushed under it, said police.

Bus service

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Road Transport Corporation will open a unit at Baliguda to ply 18 buses daily in the nine Maoist-hit blocks of Kandhamal district.
