Bhubaneswar: The state government has announced an aid of Rs 50,000 to singer Jeetendra Haripal, who shot to fame for singing Rangabati song, and Odissi dancer Meera Mohanty for their treatment. Haripal is suffering from goitre and knee joint pain and Mohanty from from a serious disease.

 

Liquor arrest

Paradip: A van carrying illicit country liquor was intercepted near Balitutha on the fringes of the proposed Posco steel project boundary. A bootlegger was arrested in this connection.

 

Bus strike

Sambalpur: The Jharsuguda Bus Owners’ Association on Thursday observed a strike. The association stopped plying buses after the newly elected general secretary of the bus owners’ association Sanjay Kumar Kar was injured when criminals fired at him on Wednesday.

 

Body found

Kendrapara: The body of a one-day-old girl child was recovered on Thursday from a dumping yard on the Gobari river diversion road in Kendrapara. Local residents spotted the abandoned body.
