Flight arrival World Bank Heatstroke Hospital uplift One dead Suicide

Flight arrival

Bhubaneswar: The first international chartered flight, carrying a group of 12 tourists from Spain and three crewmembers, visited Odisha through the Biju Patnaik International Airport on Monday after the declaration of its international status.The flight, which originated from Spain, reached Bhubaneswar on Saturday last via Jaipur, Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. The 18-seater flight, Global Express Business Jet, will depart from the airport on Tuesday for Japan.

World Bank

Bhubaneswar: A team of World Bank officials on Monday met senior officials of the higher education department and discussed various issues regarding financial and technical assistance to the state for development of higher studies in the state. They also discussed about organising an international workshop in the city in June this year.

Heatstroke

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Monday confirmed two more sunstroke deaths in the state, taking the official toll to 12. These two deaths were reported from Angul and Dhenkanal districts. The state disaster management department has received 45 complaints of death due to suspected sunstroke so far.

Hospital uplift

Bhubaneswar: The Centre has approved upgrade of Puri district headquarters hospital to a medical college in line with four other medical colleges already sanctioned at Balasore, Koraput, Balangir and Baripada. The Centre will provide 75 per cent and the state will shoulder the rest 25 per cent of the upgrade cost.

One dead

Jajpur: A woman was charred to death while her husband was critically injured in a fire that broke out in Dasarthpur village in Jajpur district on Monday. The injured husband has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack with burn injuries.

Suicide

Kendrapara: A 40-year-old man committed suicide early Monday morning by consuming pesticides at Chappali village within the limits of Mahakalpada police station.The deceased, Ashab Ali, was a businessman, said police, adding that family trouble might have prompted him to take to the drastic step.
