Kalinga stadium

Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to increase the sitting capacity of Kalinga Stadium from 500 to 1,500 for the upcoming men’s hockey world cup to be held in the city in 2018. Chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi reviewed the progress of the preparation and asked the officials to develop the utilities and changing rooms for the players. He also directed the officials to widen the entry and internal roads of the stadium, improve the public transport system and have special bus for the players.

Accident deaths

Bhubaneswar: Seven persons were killed and six persons were injured in three separate road accidents in Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada and Sundargarh districts on Monday. Three persons died when a scooter collided head on with a car near Bankaban square near Amarda Road in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday night. Two others were admitted to Baripada hospital in critical condition. Two persons were killed when a truck hit another truck from behind at Barpalli in Hemgiri Police limits in Sundargarh district. In Kendrapada, a 62-year-old man and his 35-year-old son died when the car in which they were travelling skidded off the road and turned turtle at Aanlabanka junction on the Paradip-Daitary Expressway.

Womens’ feat

Bhubaneswar: Two women sportspersons from the state have been selected for Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017 to be held from March 14 to 25 in Austria. Sarita Routray and Sonali Pradhan, will represent India in the international sports event in floor hockey and floor-ball respectively. Sasmita Mohapatra and Swagatika Parida will go to Austria as coach. Sarita had bagged gold at Beach Volleyball in Special Olympics Summer Games in the US.
