Maoists kill man
Malkangiri: Maoists shot dead a person identified as Dambaru Nayak of Kurub village under Kalimela police station limits in Malkangiri district after his trial in praja court (kangaroo court) on Friday night. Nayak was suspected to be a police informer and killed in front of other residents of the village. According to reports, around 15-20 Maoists barged into Nayak’s house and dragged him out in the evening.

Bhubaneswar: Chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Saturday directed the transport department to make its Vahan portal fully operational by January 2018 to allow easy access to users for the services sought and also evade being fleeced by brokers and middlemen at the regional transport offices. Padhi issued the direction while reviewing the department’s activities.

Bhubaneswar: The All Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association has threatened to go on an indefinite strike from November 1 demanding a hike in bus fare. This was announced by the president of the association on Saturday after a general body meeting of the association.

Jharsuguda: Police arrested a mobile mechanic and two of his aides who downloaded objectionable videos of a woman engineer from Rajasthan while repairing her phone. They allegedly blackmailed her and asked for Rs 5 lakh in exchange for the videos. They threatened to make the videos viral if they were not paid.

Dhenkanal: As many as 22 students fell ill after consuming mid-day meal at Kodibhanga Primary School under Hindol block in Dhenkanal on Saturday.

Boudh: An old man from Mallikud village under Kantamal block of Boudh district was carried on a cot for two kilometres on Saturday to reach an ambulance that could not arrive at the village due to lack of proper roads.
According to sources, Panchu Bhoi, 70, was suffering from Diarrhoea since last few days. The villagers had called a 108 ambulance to take him to hospital today, as his condition deteriorated. But, the ambulance had to stop two kilometres away from the village due to bad roads.
Temple theft
Bhubaneswar: Robbers decamped with jewellery and valuables from a 500-year-old temple at Ramnagar village in Kendrapara district. The goons broke into the sanctum sanctorum of the Ramachandi temple on Friday night. The temple trust board office was also unlocked by the robbers before fleeing with the valuables, police said.
Jumbo attack
Keonjhar: Jumbo terror gripped Champua range of Keonjhar district after a person sustained serious injuries in an elephant attack here on Saturday.
The injured has been identified as Bijaya Nayak of Balada village. The incident occurred in the morning when Nayak was going to the fields for work and a wild elephant lifted with the trunk and threw him away.
Tender fraud
Bhawanipatna: The public works department has detected fraud in tenders procured by submitting fake term deposit rates (TDRs) in Kalahandi district.
A private firm, Suraj Enterprises, and a local contractor, identified as Bunti Agarwal, allegedly submitted fake records of TDRs to procure some key tenders in the area. Both the firm and Agarwal have been issued showcause notices as to why they should not be blacklisted.

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday felicitated the 20-member strong team from the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology in Burla for winning the championship trophy and the award for best innovation at Asia’s first inter-college rocket competition.
