Winter session

Bhubaneswar: Winter session of the Odisha Assembly will begin from November 20 and continue till December 20. It will have 26 working days. The first supplementary budget will be presented on the opening day of the session.

New VC

Bhubaneswar: E Sai-baba Reddy has been selected as the vice-chancellor of the VSS University of Technology at Burla. He was a professor at the Hyderabad-based Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.

Python saved

Kendrapara: Residents of a village close to the Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary in Kendrapara district have rescued a 15-foot-long python that got trapped in a fence. The forest personnel have released it in the Kalibhanjadiha reserve forest.

Students flee

Rourkela: Afraid of headmaster, tribal students of Ashram School at Taleisara have fled away from their hostels. The seven students are from Keonjhar district. Investigation is on.

Squad nabs 5

Paradip: The turtle protection squad of the state forest department has taken five marine fishermen into custody early Wednesday morning for intruding into the prohibited breeding zones of the endangered marine animals at the Gahirmatha marine sanctuary. The fishing vessels had trespassed into prohibited sanctuary orridors.

Medical units

Jajpur: Tata Steel on Wednesday rolled out five mobile medical units at Kalinganagar to provide better health care facilities to residents. Medicines would also be provided free of cost to the patients.

Childbirth

Paradip: A 28-year-old woman delivered a baby with two heads at a private hospital in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday. It was a very rare case of conjoined twins with one body and two heads.

Lover held

Kendrapara: Police arrested a 23-year-old youth, who had stabbed a 17-year-old college girl near Ostapur on the outskirts of the district headquarters towns. The accused, Gyan Ranjan Rout, had made advances towards the victim. Later, he launched an attack on the girl after she had shunned him.
