Students drown Scholarship Attacked Cheat held Arrest

Students drown

Cuttack: Two students drowned in the Mahanadi river near Jobra barrage while bathing with three friends on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Himanshu Mohapatra, 15, a first-year electrical student, and Debasish Panda, 15, a first-year mechanical student of Bose Engineering School. The duo slipped and were dragged into the river by its strong current.

Scholarship

Bhubaneswar: The government has finalised the list for 165 sports scholarships. There will be 90 scholarships for college students and 75 for university students. While the college students will get an annual scholarship of Rs 2,000, university students will receive a grant of Rs 3,000 every year.

Attacked

Balasore: Goons stabbed a man who worked at a liquor outlet on Tuesday. The victim Panchanan Mishra, 43, is undergoing treatment in the headquarters hospital. Police suspect previous feuds as the reason behind the attack.

Cheat held

Berhampur: The managing director of a non-banking financial company was arrested on charges of cheating depositors in Khallikote area. Women agents of Ganjam-based Abhash India had lodged a complaint against Niranjan Polai that he collected lakhs of rupees from rural investors promising them high returns.

Arrest

Balasore: Cops arrested a share trader on charges of duping people to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore. Rajesh Mallick, 28, a resident of Ranipatna, was arrested by the Sahadevkhunta police. A case had been pending against him since 2011 following investors’ complaints.
