Murder verdict

Jajpur: A local court in the district on Monday awarded life imprisonment to a person for killing his sister-in-law in her house about 20 months ago. The additional district and sessions judge of Jajpur, Rohitlal Panda passed the order convicting Babu Bai,60, of Haripur village under Sukinda police station in the district for the murder of Jayanti Bai,40, in 2014.

Accident

Rourkela: A group of schoolchildren and teachers were injured in an accident near Hemgiri after the car in which they were travelling overturned.

Land row

Bhubaneswar: Land measuring 70 acres in Jajpur district, recorded in the name of ex- chief secretary R.N. Das, will be taken over by the government. 

Poacher held

Baripada: The Udla forest range staff members arrested a poacher. The accused Hadibandhu Baskey, 50, of Taladihawas caught near Dalma forest patch.

Rape cuffs

Baripada: Police on Monday arrested a 30-year-old man, Rakesh Singh, for raping a 13-year-old girl.

Cop dead

Rourkela: The body of a Rourkela District Police Office inspector Rajesh Chhatria was found in his official residence on Monday. The police are yet to ascertain the cause of death and have sent his body for post-mortem. Police superintendent Anirudha Singh said officers discovered his body when they went to his house after he failed to report to duty.   

Bus strike

Bhubaneswar: State transport minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi on Monday said the government would address private bus owners’ grievances through discussion. The bus owners have announced an indefinite strike from December 1.
