Bank loot case

Bhubaneswar: Nayapalli police on Monday nabbed Sahadev Barik, main accused in the Buguda Utkal Gramya Bank loot incident in Ganjam. After getting information about his presence with his partner at Salia Sahi slum here, police conducted a raid and arrested him. On May 24, six masked goons armed with weapons robbed the Manitara branch of Utkal Gramya Bank in Buguda.

Nuapada: A tribal worker from Nuapada district returned home five years after an accident and ill treatment by his employer and brokers in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. 

He is now physically challenged. Identified as Kansari Khamari of Paenr village under Komna block, he was hired by brokers of Chhatakhutalmunda and Mukalimunda villages to work as a labourer in Andhra Pradesh, where he was seriously injured during work.

Egg attack 

Bhubaneswar: The Aul police on Monday arrested BJD leader Bhisma Mohanty, a key aide of party’s spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member P.K. Deb, for organising the egg attack on Union tribal welfare minister Jual Oram during his visit to Rajkanika area on June 14 to attend a Sabka Saath Sabka Vikash programme. With the arrest, nine people have been arrested for the incident.    

Patha Utsav

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will officially announce the commencement of upcoming Asian Athletics Championship on the Patha Utsav to be held on June 25. In order to make the championship a grand sports event in the region, the coming Patha Utsav will be a star-studded event. A famous Bollywood celebrity and a dance group will perform during the event. 

CM praise

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday applauded the achievement of Odia scientist Kailash Sahu who led a team of astronomers of Space Telescope Science Institute in US in validating Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity by measuring the mass of a star far beyond our galaxy. The chief minister extended his wishes through social media. Sahu is known as planet hunter in the astronomy fraternity since he had discovered 16 new planets in 2006

Sand artist

Sambalpur: Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has been roped in as the brand ambassador of Odisha Milk Federation, the state’s biggest dairy cooperative. Pattnaik has been named as the brand ambassador for several organisations in the 
past. Last year, he was declared as the brand ambassador for the 5th International Sand Art Festival at Konark, which was organised by state tourism department.

Gherao

Keonjhar: Demanding immediate arrest of persons involved in a group clash, residents on Monday gheraoed the Ghasipura police station in Keonjhar. Two villagers were injured in a group clash on Friday evening while a Raja procession was on. Though three complaints were filed in connection with the scuffle, no one has been arrested yet.
