Bhubaneswar, Feb. 18: Odia films are giving Ranbir Kapoor starrer Roy a good run for their money.

While Ishq Tu Hi Tu, which hit the theatres last month, is still running in some cinemas, Nua Nua Premare that released last week is pulling more viewers than Ranbir Kapoor starrer Roy. And thanks to Shivratri celebrations, Telugu films are a huge hit too.

The Amitabh Bachhan starrer Shamitabh may have earned some good reviews, but has failed to draw crowds here. Apart from Inox, the sole multiplex in the city, no other cinema is playing the film. It hardly ran for just one week in most theatres.

Akshay Kumar's Baby has, however, managed to impress viewers here. Inox at present is running a single show of the movie.

"We had some hopes from Shamitabh featuring Amitabh Bachhan who is a crowd puller. But the film didn't do great business here. So, we replaced it with Roy," said Suresh, an official at S-complex that has three screens. However, even Ranbir Kapoor has disappointed in terms of collections, he said.

"Though Ranbir Kapoor films are a huge hit among film lovers in the city, Roy is not earning good money and so we might be removing it shortly. Rather Nua Nua Premare has impressed viewers here. We will probably increase the number of shows for the film by dedicating another screen," said the official.

Ravi Talkies, too, is running four shows for this Odia film while Arindam and reality show winner Elina continue to entertain audience in their movie Ishq Tu Hi Tu that has been running for over a month. The movie had released on January 16. Another Odia film, Janha Ra Pahada also sustained one week in a few theatres.

In fact, Telugu films have also turned out to be a hit here. Three films are supposed to hit the theatres at Tuesday midnight and Wednesday wee hours. The shows will run at midnight and 3am.

"There is a sizeable Telugu population in the city. So, one can guess why Telegu movies are doing well here. However, even college students are turning up for the films in large numbers. The collections are quite impressive for a couple of shows," said Swagat Kar, founder of online movie ticket booking website.

Many college students, however, appear to be upset that Hollywood films are missing from the scene completely. "We tried to call a few theatres to find out if Fifty Shades of Grey will be released here. But we are disappointed. We have to wait till we get a poor pirated print circulated somewhere," said Lipsa Priyadarshini, an engineering student.
