Jajpur: Kuakhia police on Saturday arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly uploading obscene video and photos of his girlfriend on Facebook.
The accused - Rama Chandra Barik - is a resident of Mahabir Road in Purjang police station area in Dhenkanal district. The police arrested Barik from his rented house at Manguli in Cuttack late on Saturday night after the 23-year-old woman filed a complaint with local police on Saturday.
According to the police complaint, the woman and Barik got involved in a romantic relationship when they were studying in college some four years ago. At that time, Barik had shot some obscene photos and videos of his girlfriend. The woman returned home after completion of her studies a couple of months ago.
On the other hand, Barik posted those photos on social media to take revenge on her after the couple had a heated argument over something a few days ago and parted their ways susbequently.
"I got to know from some of my friends that my obscene pictures and videos have been posted from a fake account of mine on the Facebook. When I saw them on the social media, I understood the photos were taken by my former boyfriend. I told him to remove them, but he instead kept on uploading more such videos and photos on Facebook.
He also wrote defamatory and objectionable text on the social media. When all my requests failed to yield any result, I was forced to lodge a police complaint," she said.
Based on the complaint, the police filed a case and started investigation. "During interrogation, Barik confessed to have committed the crime," said Ashis Kuamar Sahu, inspector in charge of Kuakhia police station.
The accused has been charged with several sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act and was forwarded to a local court on Sunday. He was subsequently remanded in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
