Angul: A tigress was brought to the Satkosia tiger reserve from Bandhabgarh in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday evening.

"It is hale and hearty and is responding well," said an official of the tiger reserve. The animal has been kept in an enclosure and will be released into the forest later.

A three-year-old male tiger has also been kept in the forest. The male tiger was brought from the Kanha tiger reserve of Madhya Pradesh on June 22.

According to an agreement, Satkosia tiger reserve will get total six tigers from Madhya Pradesh to increase its own tiger population. Out of that, the tiger reserve today received the second tiger.

Two more tigers and tigresses will be translocated to Satkosia in the near future. The tigers are being brought from Kanha, Bandhabagarh and Panna in Madhya Pradesh, said additional chief conservator of forest, Angul circle, Sudarshan Panda.

A special team, along with a doctor, had gone to Bandhabgarh from here to bring the tigress.

The tigress was tranquilised on Wednesday morning and was brought in special-care vehicle.

The first tiger, that came from Kanha, is also responding well in the new location. Wild boar, which are available abundantly in and around Satkosia, are being given to it regularly.

All his movements and activities are being monitored by a closed-circuit television camera. A radio apparatus has also been fitted in his neck.

"We are monitoring his activities in the new locations and learnt that he is doing well. If this trend continues, then we will release it into the forest soon. The forest is spread about 1000 square kilometres," Panda said.
