Bhubaneswar, May 7: The much-awaited 10-storey Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation headquarters building will be constructed near Madhusudan Nagar. The building will cost the civic body nearly Rs 50 crore.

The new building will be spread over 5.5 acres. But in the initial phase, the municipal corporation will seek 1.9 acres from the general administration department. The remaining land will be sought in the next phase.

Civic body’s project officer Srimant Mishra said: “Once the new multi-storey main building comes up, the present office will be converted to a zonal office.’’

In the past, the civic body was planning to have at least five zonal offices across the city so that zonal officials can have a better reach to local problems.

The municipal corporation authorities today also decided to have two multi-level parking places, one each at Ashok Nagar and CRP Square respectively. Earlier, there was a plan to have at least seven multi-level parking lots. “While the Ashok Nagar parking lot will have a space of 1.69 acre, it will come up on 1 acre at CRP Square,’’ Mishra added. Parking lots at Bapuji Nagar, BJB Nagar, Rajmahal Square, Unit-II and Saheed Nagar will come up in the next phase.
