Bhubaneswar, Feb. 13: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik will meet industry representatives at the Make in India Week in Mumbai tomorrow to seek investments for the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the event.

Odisha industry minister Debi Prasad Mishra said: "We will showcase the business opportunities available in the state. We will organise an investors' meet and highlight the reform initiatives undertaken by the state to facilitate business environment in Odisha."

Naveen will hold one-to-one meetings with the investors and delegates from Japan, China and several other countries. The state will highlight the fact that the World Bank has ranked Odisha seventh among all Indian states in terms of investment friendliness. The state government has already brought in the second phase of reforms by introducing a variety of sops, such as land at concessions, VAT reimbursements, electricity duties and other exemptions to draw investments. The state will also highlight how it has roped in telecom wizard Sam Pitroda as its technology advisor for development of telecom, electronics, IT and ITES sectors.

An industry department official said that during the Make in India Week, the state would unveil its Industrial Development Plan: Vision 2025 and launch investment-related services on the e-Biz portal and the Central Inspection Framework portal.

Although the inauguration of Rs 35,000-crore Paradip oil refinery project gives a fillip to the state's industrial activity, it is yet to woo investments from the private sector. After years of efforts, South Korean steel major Posco has almost decided not to pursue its eight-million-tonne project in Odisha. It is considered a major setback for the state after Arcelor Mittal had withdrawn from its steel project in Odisha.

Official sources said the presence of the chief minister and his proposed interactions with the captains of various industries would inspire confidence among investors.
