Bhubaneswar, Feb. 12: Police plan to conduct polygraph test on popular television actress Pralipta Priyadarshini Samal, also known as Jessy, event manager Pralaya Jena and driver Dhaneswar Behera in connection with the death of choreographer-turned-actor Ranjit Pattnaik aka Raja.
Raja died on Sunday on way to Bhubaneswar from Soro in Balasore where they had gone to attend a programme.
While Pralaya and Behera had claimed that Raja had committed suicide by jumping off the Chaparpada bridge over the Kansa Bansa river in Balasore, the deceased's family had alleged foul play. The 38-year-old actor had featured in television serials - Devi, Uansi Kanya, Rajakanya, Pari and Sehnai.
Balasore superintendent of police Niti Sekhar told The Telegraph that they were interrogating the trio. "We took Pralaya and the car driver to the spot. We have also served a notice to the actress to depose before the police. She came here this evening. Investigation is on to ascertain the circumstances, which led to the death. We may conduct polygraph test of the trio," said Sekhar.
Mystery shrouded the actor's death as the statements made by the trio differed from each other. While Pralaya claimed that Raja had jumped off the bridge after an altercation with Jessy, the actress has denied the charges. The driver, however, claimed that he had seen Raja jumping off the bridge after the actor asked him to stop the vehicle to attend nature's call.
"I saw Raja crying in pain after he fell from the bridge. We rushed him to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital and later shifted him to SCB Medical College in Cuttack in an ambulance," Pralaya had claimed. Raja succumbed to his injuries at SCB Medical College.
The cops are investigating to find out the reason behind Pralaya's decision to rush Raja in an ambulance though they were travelling in a car.
It is alleged that Raja had an affair with Jessy, which soured a few months ago. Besides, it is also alleged that Raja had an altercation with Jessy in the car over her relationship with another actor that might have forced him to commit suicide. "It is premature to conclude whether Raja committed suicide. We are investigating all possible angles," said Sekhar.
