Cuttack, Feb. 13: Police will seek further remand of gangster siblings - Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samant - to collect more information about their crime network.
As the duo refused to take a lie-detector test here today, the cops will apply for fresh remand on Monday.
Today, the brothers were produced before sub-divisional judicial magistrate at his residence after their second phase remand expired. They were sent to Choudwar jail and will be produced before the court on Monday for further remand.
The cops wanted to conduct a polygraph test because the brothers had not been co-operating with the interrogation, especially in connection with the Dipu and Om murder cases. The police, based on the statements of the siblings' aides, cracked the mystery behind the disappearance of Manoj Mallick alias Dipu and Om Prakash Swain in the second phase remand.
Both Dipu and Om, who had gone missing in 2013, were allegedly killed by the Dhal Samant brothers, along with a few of their associates, at Athgarh, while their bodies were disposed off in Jharkhand, police said yesterday.
Chauliaganj police today arrested Jobra Puja Committee secretary Sangram Routray, 59, for his alleged links with the brothers.
Routray is accused of supplying arms and ammunition to the duo. A gun and six rounds of live bullets were seized from his possession.
The police had earlier arrested him in connection with the Rabi Dalai murder case in 1999, but he was subsequently acquitted in that case.
Earlier, the police had arrested Nirmal Rout and Debasish Kar for their alleged links with the Dhal Samant brothers. The cops said both Dipu and Om, after they had been abducted on November 12, were taken to Rout's farmhouse at Athgarh where they were beaten to death. On February 1, Chauliaganj police arrested Rama Das and Bharat Bhusan Swain, who were close associates of the gangster brothers. The cops had seized four mausers, 160 rounds of live ammunition from the possession of Das while Rs 12.44 lakh was seized from Bharat. Police today questioned Cuttack ward No. 7 councillor Ranjita Biswal to find out about her links with Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangh that was founded by Sushil Dhal Samant. Biswal was one of the joint secretaries of the organisation.
