Bhubaneswar, May 27: A 30-year-old woman, who has been claiming herself to be the wife of BJD MLA from Talcher, Braja Kishore Pradhan, today lodged a complaint petition against him in sub-divisional judicial magistrate court here.
"I visited the legislator several times to settle our issue amicably, but he tried to threaten me with the help of his supporters. Though I had sought police help, they did not even register a case, as he is a ruling party MLA. Finding no other option, I decided to move the court," she said.
The woman claimed the legislator had married her at the Jagannath temple in Puri on April 5, 2015, with consent of both the families.
On May 17, the woman ransacked the MLA's residence at Unit-IV, while on May 9, she had sat on a dharna in front of it, forcing him to accept her as his wife. In February, she had lodged a formal complaint against the MLA at Mahila police station. But, the police had refused to register a case, saying that it was non-cognisable in nature. The police had advised the woman to take the help of court of law.
Her lawyer Lalatendu Das alleged that the police, on the other hand, had registered a case against her, as Pradhan was an influential politician.
"We will produce all the related documents in the court," said Das.
