Angul: Revenue minister Maheswar Mahanty inaugurated a park here on Utkal Divas. The park was built at a cost of Rs four crore.

An official source said there was a piece of unutilised land of 6.8 acres at Sikhyakpara which was taken up by the Angul municipality for the construction of the park. The state forest department provided around Rs four crore for the construction and development of the park.

"Works started in the year 2015-16. The park is almost complete but some work is left for which we are spending Rs 50 lakh from the municipality fund. The rest of work will be completed once the fund comes from state forest department," said municipal executive officer P.K. Sahu.

The park has an underground drainage system, renovated tank with boating facility, landscaping, trees, waterfall and others. It will also have a waiting hall, watch towers and statues. These would be constructed after getting the state forest department funds.

Municipal engineer Simachal Mihra said the park had many attractions and could be used for entertainment. Mishra said there was an entry fee of Rs 5 for each visitor and Rs 20 will be charged for boating per person. He said the municipality was preparing utilisation certificate to be submitted to the state forest department for early release of funds.
