Calcutta Police won the game by defeating Jammu and Kashmir 48-5. Tamil Nadu finished third overcoming a stiff competition by KISS. Bhubaneswar team that routed CRPF by 31-15 lifted the plate cup. Champions Calcutta Police had given out clear signals to other teams by thrashing Bihar by a massive margin of 87-0 in their first match.

While Haryana opted out from the tournament at the last minute as many players backed out because of injury, CRPF’s train got delayed and the team could not reach on time for the inaugural match. No matches were lined up for Friday. Instead, a coaching course was organised on that day where players from various teams participated. Nasser Hussain and Manas Jena, two noted players, trained them.

The event has been organised by Indian Rugby Football Union in collaboration with Odisha Rugby Football Association. “Rugby requires a lot of strength, stamina and mental agility. Many youngsters are taking up the game in the city,” said Upendra Kumar Mohanty, secretary, ORFA.
