Bhubaneswar, Aug. 12: Governor S.C. Jamir today inaugurated the XUB Sustainability Summit, organised by the Xavier School of Sustainability, a part of the Xavier University, Bhubaneswar.
The governor spoke about the importance of humanity progressing on the path of sustainable development, especially in context of the implications these issues have for global peace, stability and security.
Based on the theme “Energy, Peace and Global Governance,” the three-day summit aims to mainstream sustainability in management education.
The core agenda of the summit is to create a movement for putting energy and peace at the centre of discourse and a platform and institutional network among all actors to promote the theme.
The speakers highlighted the importance of developing close synergies among the governments, industry, civil society and the academia to build a sustainable society.
Unicef’s Bhubaneswar field office chief Yumi Bae spoke of the urgent need to balance human and economic development with the survival of the planet.
“The theme of this year’s summit highlights the link between energy and conflict. The ongoing conflicts at the global scenario are attributed to the geopolitics of oil and the insatiable tendency to control the natural resources,” said S. Peppin, dean of the school of sustainability.
The XUB has also collaborated with Wipro to conduct a Best Paper Award on “Advancing Sustainability in Management Education and Research on Energy, Peace and Global Governance”. Teachers and research scholars from management institutions have been invited to submit papers.
Companies and organisations involved in promoting alternative and sustainable use of energy and peace-building processes will showcase their work at the “Sustainability Expo” of the summit.
