Berhampur, Feb. 17: Simanchal Nayak, a 42-year-old resident of Belapada village in the Badagada police station area in Ganjam district, has killed his wife, daughter and son with a sharp weapon at his house early in the morning today.

Nayak has been arrested and is under interrogation. “We have seized the three bodies and the weapon used in the murder. We have also arrested the accused and are interrogating him,” said inspector in charge of Badagada police station Bibekananda Swain.

Villagers said that early in the morning, Nayak came out to the street, shouting and crying that he had killed his wife, son and daughter. “He asked us to kill him. We overpowered Nayak and informed police about the incident,” said one of the villagers. “The three deceased were lying in a pool of blood. Their heads were chopped off from bodies,” said a police officer, who is investigating the incident.

“This is completely a family affair. Simanchal took the extreme step, suspecting his wife’s character,” said the police officer. Earlier, Nayak used to work as a labourer in Surat, Bangalore and many other places. He had returned from Surat one year ago and was working at different places in Ganjam. But, he had been staying at the village since the last one month, the villagers said.
