Man held for minor girl's rape

Police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor girl at a village in Kendrapara district.

Kendrapara: Police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping a minor girl at a village in Kendrapara district.

Though the incident took place last week at Badamanga village in Aul police limits, it came to the fore after family members of the girl lodged an FIR with the local police on Monday, the police said.

The cops registered a case on the basis of the FIR and arrested the accused, identified as Panu Mallick. The cops onducted medical examination on both.

Mallick was booked under sections 376 (rape), 557 (assault or criminal force in attempt to wrongfully confine a person), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and sections 4 and 6 of the Pocso Act, 2012. He was later sent to jail after a local court rejected his bail plea.
