Balangir: A youth was hacked to death at Gulgulapadar village in Manamunda police limits of Boudh district, about 70km from here, on Wednesday morning.

The victim has been identified as Shantanu Kanhar of the village. Though the motive behind the crime has not yet been ascertained, villagers and the deceased's family members attribute it to case of love affair.

Police have detained the alleged girlfriend of the deceased and another man for questioning.

Sources said the villagers on Wednesday morning found Kanhar's body lying near a farmhouse at a small distance from the village and informed his family members.

Acting on the tip-off, the police rushed to the spot and seized the body. The cops have recovered a crowbar and a woman's vanity bag from the spot.

The police said investigation was still in the early stage and it was difficult to attribute any specific reason to the crime.
