Honour for teacher
Suryakanti Jena, biology teacher and academic supervisor of the DAV Public School, Unit-VIII, received the CBSE award for Teachers-2016 by Union minister of state for human resource development Upendra Kushwaha in presence of the board chairman Aanita Karawal in New Delhi on September 11. The school organised a felicitation ceremony for her.
The school managing committee members, teachers, students and the staff members congratulated her on the occasion.
Platinum award
The school and mass education department received 49th SKOCH Platinum Award, 2017. Around 800 participants applied for the award given in categories such as smart governance, smart city and smart finance.
The state government got six order of merit awards for best practices in categories such as Bal Jyoti, child-tracking system, mother tongue-based multilingual education, school students' helpline, seasonal hostel and SMS-based monitoring system of the midday meal programme. The department got the SKOCH Platinum Award for initiatives taken in the midday meal scheme.
Literacy week
The DAV Public School, Pokhariput, had celebrated 'literacy week' from September 1 to 8 to create awareness among students about the importance of literacy. Competitions such as poem recitation, poster designing, book cover designing, tongue twisters, literary quiz brought a new zest among the participants to explore the rich colour of the literacy. Motivational speaker and author Digambar Behera was invited to inspire the students to spread the message of literacy and felicitate the winners of various competitions organised during the week.
Short film
Raising voice against discrimination through a short film, students of the Sai International School, Bhubaneswar, have won the Dadasaheb Phalke award.
Their short film, Labels, that won the award highlights how stereotypes in the society are posing hurdles for individual growth. The team behind the film won the award in the public service ad category in Delhi. Students Milan Machhar, Balaji Patra, Akhankya Acharya, Adyasha Patra, Shresyashree Nayak, Swapna Soren, Shaba Hussain, Shruti Jena and Yatan Bathwal were involved in the film-making among others.
The team produced the film from creating the concept to preparing the script, shooting, editing and all other aspects of production.
Importance of Hindi
Teachers and students celebrated Hindi Pakhwada Samaroh at the Mother's Public School, Bhubaneswar in order to emphasise the importance of Hindi. The event had been celebrated over a span of 14 days. The announcements, prayers and speeches during the morning assembly were conducted in Hindi to promote the language. There was a whole event dedicated towards spreading the message about the importance of Hindi. Debates, poetry recitation and slideshows were some of the activities, by which the students expressed their opinions with regards to the celebration.
