Movie enthusiasts gather for the screening of Rangila Toka at a theatre complex in Bhubaneswar on Friday, lead actress Devjani and a poster of the film.

The much-awaited Odia film, which released in over 50 theatres across the state on Friday, is a first-of-its-kind full-fledged comedy. It is expected to pull audiences owing to its star cast, popular comedian Pappu Pom Pom and Devjani, who is known for her hit album videos.

Pappu Pom Pom, who has played the hero’s friend in many films, will be seen in a lead role for the first time. He was excited about the response to his film during its premiere in Bhubaneswar.

“Today when I saw the rush outside the theatre, it reminded me of my struggle and all the hardships I had to face to reach this place in the industry. It is all because of the love and affection of my fans. I hope this film entertains them,” said Pappu.

Pappu plays Shibu, who sells film tickets in black. He falls in love with a rich businessman’s sister, played by Devjani. Veteran actor Sidhant Mohapatra plays the businessman and the villain.

“It was a memorable experience to shoot for this film. We have put in a lot of effort. I just hope it works and the audience loves the film,” said Devjani.

The music composed by Abhijit Majumdar has already become a hit with songs such as Sajani sajani, Lipstick wali paar karega and the title track Rangila Toka ruling the charts.

“Pappu Pom Pom is the best actor we have around. Be it in live shows, television or films, he can tickle the funny bones of any person. I hope Rangila Toka turns out to be an original comedy film in Odia finally,” said Bhabani Shankar, an engineering student.

The film released under the banner of Oscar Movies, popular for last year’s hit Balunga Toka. Produced by Prabhas Chandra Rout and directed by K Murali Krishna, the story has been written by Munna Patra.
