Bhubaneswar, Sept. 6: Two government officials were suspended and cases were registered against two villagers in connection with the illegal construction of a road inside a forest and illegal sale of government land at Ghangapatna on the city’s outskirts.

The alleged road is supposed to have been built to give access to the 100-acre disputed land.

“Revenue inspector of Paikrapur Basant Kumar Swain and clerk Niranjan Das at the Khurda collector’s office, have been put under suspension based on a report of the local tehsildar,” said Khurda collector Niranjan Sahu.

Sources said the two officials had changed the kissam (category) of the forestland in the area violating rules. While in three cases, they changed the forestland to parbat kissam, in another case the land was shown as of chotta jangal kissam.

The district collector also told reporters that an FIR had been lodged against two persons — Mahendra Dehuri and Susant Behera — at Chandaka police station.

The police are verifying records to ascertain the involvement of others in the incident.

The police had asked the Chandaka divisional forest officer to give a report on the involvement of other persons in land sale.

According to the report, of the 100 acres, influential people had taken possession of 74 acres. Revenue inspectors and amins posted in Bhubaneswar tehsil after 1998 are being probed at the moment.
