Laurels for toppers
Students, who had scored above 90 per cent in the Class XII exams and had done well at various national-level entrance tests, were awarded at a felicitation ceremony at the DAV Public School, Chandrashekharpur. Former chief secretary, Bijay Kumar Patnaik, the chief guest for the occasion gave away the prizes. Speaking to the students he said that talented ones should help people around them and bring a difference with the right kind of attitude. The awardees included the CBSE Class XII state topper Abhilash Biswas (98 per cent), state topper in JEE (Advanced) Satwikdeb Mishra (131 rank), Likhit Nyak (AIPMT rank 25) and many more. A special result bulletin titled the Hall of Fame was also released.

Felicitation
DAV Public School, Pokhariput, felicitated the achievers for their outstanding result in CBSE Class XII. Ashok Chandra Panda, the minister of states (independent charge), tourism and culture department gave away the prizes. Students, who secured 90 per cent and above at AISSCE-2014, were conferred with medals and certificates of merit. Sixty-five students from science and four students from commerce received the medals and certificates.
Many students received special mention prizes for securing 100 per cent mark in various subjects. Arnav Panigrahi, Debarnav Mitra and Deepak RanjanMalia were declared as the star students of the year.
Fellowship awarded
Around 1,205 students were awarded scholarship by Tata Steel to help them further in the pursuit of higher education. The meritorious students, who belong to the underprivileged ST/SC students, were selected through tests conducted at various places of the state.
Earlier, only high school students were given this fellowship, but from 2013-14, intermediate and graduate students have also been included in the programme. Along with cash awards some of the best performing students of the test are also given tablets and solar powered lanterns. The cash amounts for the fellowship are Rs 3,750 (Class VIII), Rs 4,500 (Class IX), Rs 4,500 (Class X), Rs 8,500 (intermediate), Rs 8,500 (graduation) and Rs 10,000 (diploma).

Freshers’ welcome
Bracing the afternoon heat young boys and girls of the Mother’s Public School sang and danced welcoming the freshers of Class XI on June 28.
Dance, song, music, mimicry, skits, street plays were a part of the cultural programme put up by the students. The new students took part in a talent hunt contest where they showcased a variety of activities in 60 seconds each. The programme helped the students to learn and know about each other and the interest areas of their classmates.
