Rourkela/Cuttack, Dec. 26: Three persons were killed in elephant attacks in two separate incidents in Sundergarh and Cuttack districts.

A 35-year-old woman and her three-year-old son were trampled to death at Bijadihi village in the Kinjrikela police station limits in Sundergarh late last night while a jumbo killed a man at Kuspangi village in Cuttack district today.

The elephants killed Pramila Ekka, 35, and her son Rohit, 3.

It was around 2am when a herd of elephant, consisting of over 15 male, female and calves, entered the village. An elephant picked her up along with her son on the trunk and banged both of them to the ground and trampled.

In another incident, the man, who was trampled to death by an elephant at Kuspangi, has been identified as Ajay Jena, 30.

The incident occurred when Jena had gone to his agricultural field around 4am today.

Unaware of the presence of elephants in the field because of dense fog and poor visibility, Jena was surrounded and chased away by a herd of three to four elephants.

Later, Jena was attacked and mauled to death by an elephant, said Dampada forest ranger Parbodh Chandra Naik.
