Cuttack, May 12: The controversy over the alleged “affair” between the son of a former judge and their domestic help took a new turn with medical reports indicating that the woman is not pregnant.
“At present, the woman is not pregnant as her medical reports indicate that her uterus is in normal shape and no product was found during the ultrasound test,” said head of gynaecology department, SCB Medical College and Hospital, Shayama Kanungo.
Further tests will throw more light on whether there had been any loss of pregnancy, as the woman, Meena alias Mini Pradhan, was earlier thrown off the Jobra barrage, official sources said.
Meena, who had been working as domestic help in the Bhubaneswar home of former additional district judge Samir Ray since 2007, was allegedly thrown off the Jobra barrage on May 8.
The 23-year-old woman claimed to have been married to Samir Ray’s son Satyabrata and was pregnant. She had alleged that her in-laws had tried to kill her after Satyabrata’s marriage was fixed with another woman recently.
The family members of the woman had also said that Meena was pregnant and her in-laws had been trying to coerce her into aborting the child. They had even taken her to a private nursing home for abortion.
“They beat up Meena regularly after she refused to abort the child. It was Meena who told us that she was pregnant and that was being given medicines suspected to be contraceptive pills,” said her aunt Bishnupriya Nayak.
A team of doctors are attending to the woman, who has sustained multiple injuries and fractures on her right hand, ribs and pelvic bones. She is undergoing treatment at the central intensive care unit of SCB Medical College and Hospital.
The Jagatpur police had on May 9 arrested Samir Ray, his wife Geetika, son Satyabrata and an electrician Prashant Das for allegedly conspiring to kill the woman.
Senior police officials said the Ray family had paid Rs 3.5 lakh to contract killers to eliminate the woman. However, as yet the police are yet to nab the killers, who are on the run.
Sources said five special teams had been formed to nab the culprits who are said to be dreaded criminals from the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
