Bhubaneswar, Sept. 11: Graduates, who wished to grab a job at the special recruitment drive organised by the technical education department, will have to wait for some more time.
The drive scheduled on September 17 has been postponed till November. In an official release, the department today said that it would be held after Diwali.
“This has been done to accommodate the requirements and suggestions by the companies participating in the drive. The new date will be announced later,” reads the statement.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by technical education minister Sanjay Dasburma.
Altogether 40,346 students have registered for the drive. Officials said that a good number of companies had shown interest in the event.
However, it would take some time to incorporate their requirements.
On the other hand, aspirants are not happy with the decision to postpone the drive and blamed the lack of preparedness of the officials.
“The number of applicants was much more than they had expected. Therefore, they postponed the whole event,” said Suratna Singh, an engineering college faculty.
Besides, September is not the recruiting time for companies as they have already finished hiring for this season. Holding the job drive in November will ensure more recruiters,” he said.
Officials in the department are also working out on finding a better venue to hold the fair. It was supposed to be held at the Idco exhibition ground in the city.
