Bong bombshell Riya Sen raises the temperatures in My Love Story

A comprehensible story, loads of action, oodles of ostentatious dialogues, toilet humour and sprinkles of titillating romantic scenes — these used to be some of the most important ingredients of a formula film.

But these days all this probably comes second when compared to the indispensability of one raunchy song that grabs eyeballs and tries to set the cash registers ringing.

While actress Debjani was seen shaking her booty to the lyrics of Chumma in the recently released Chanda Na Tume Tara, Riya Sen was here a few weeks ago to shoot for an item song for upcoming Odia film My Love Story. The frequency of these numbers affirms that the Odia film industry has no dearth of its Munnis, Sheelas or Chikni Chamelis.

Often a sizzling hottie, who is not part of the film’s main cast, performs the item song. However, at times even the lead actresses shake a leg to these peppy numbers. Namarata Thapa, who made her mark with blockbuster Odia film I Love You, doesn’t shy away from doing item numbers. Namrata’s Rohi Sange Illisir Bahaghara act in Abhimanyu (2009) was immensely popular for its Sambalpuri touch. Then she got jiggy in the Ram piyari number for Ashok Pati’s film Shapath.

“Item songs are challenging since they need the artiste to showcase good dancing skills. I don’t feel there is much difference between an item song and a lead role as the audience loves both,” says the actress.

Actress Sambhavana Seth oozed her oomph on screen with an item song in the movie Love dot com. Bidyutsmita’s Sexy Billi act in the movie Chocolate made the audience grin like Cheshire cats. Artiste Lovely performed Mor jawani sola saal in Emiti Be Prem Hue and Lal taha taha in Loafer. Kashmira Shah set the stage on fire with Kanta lagi chiri gala lo kunira ghagara in the Anubhav Mohanty starrer Kiese Dakuchhi Kouthi Mote.
