Bhubaneswar, Sept. 17: Invest Bhubaneswar, an organisation consisting of Odia entrepreneurs and government agencies, will visit Singapore to explore business opportunities in fields of tourism, information technology (IT), infrastructure development, small and medium enterprises and micro, small and medium enterprises sectors.

A delegation is scheduled to organise a daylong summit in Singapore on September 25 and later, a road show to attract investors. The one-day summit is being organised in collaboration with the Singapore-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI).

The delegation will also have high-level representation from the Odisha government, including the chief secretary, secretaries from the departments of tourism, IT and energy, as well as officials from the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation and Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited (Ipicol).

“One of the concrete gains of the early efforts of Invest Bhubaneswar was the formation of a local chapter in Bhubaneswar which has now linked the entrepreneur’s community in Odisha with a global network. The Singapore event will also form a local chapter called Invest Bhubaneswar Singapore,” said Debasish Patnaik, a core member of Invest Bhubaneswar team. He added: “With the state government making extra efforts in promoting tourism and especially Buddhist sites the trip will definitely attract investors in the hospitality industry.”

“Invest Bhubaneswar is also holding an annual event in the city to attract foreign and domestic investors to Odisha and link them with the lucrative opportunities that exist in the region. The government of Odisha has been encouraging this effort by Odisha-based young entrepreneurs. Ipicol has been the nodal agency and has supported Invest Bhubaneswar’s efforts at every step with direct encouragement of the government agencies,” said another member of the Invest Bhubaneswar local chapter.

The SICCI-assisted event is likely to have, among others, the high commissioner of India in Singapore, T.C.A. Raghavan and SICCI chairman R. Narayanamohan. While more than 75 Singapore-based investors are likely to attend the event, 30 entrepreneurs from Odisha will take part in the summit.
