Bhubaneswar, Nov. 14: A ploy to release a detained autorickshaw driver did not work and the imposter who had posed as Biju Janata Dal MP Siddhant Mohapatra landed in police net here today.
At about 8.30pm on Sunday, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel had detained an auto driver at the Bhubaneswar railway station for illegal parking and picking up a quarrel with cops.
Around 10pm, inspector in-charge of the RPF police station Varun Kumar Behera got a call from a BSNL number. The caller identified himself as the BJD’s Berhampur MP, who is also an actor, and asked Behera to release auto driver Narendra Kumar Jena.
This morning, imposter Jitendra Kumar Sahu, who works as a film production manager, had come to the RPF police station. After verifying the call details, Sahu was detained. Sahu, who hails from Kandhamal district, is a member of Orissa Motion Pictures Technicians’ and Workers’ Association. Behera said he checked the mobile phone number from which the call was made and confirmed that it did not belong to the MP.
“I even called the MP who is not in the city at the moment and was not aware of the matter,” he said. However, the accused said he did not identified himself as the MP while making calls to Behera. “I have been falsely detained by the police,” he said. Sahu has been handed over to the Government Railway Police.
