Imagination unbound caught on camera

Sambalpur, April 30: A photography exhibition that recently concluded at the Veer Surendra Sai town hall in Sambalpur drew a crowd of art lovers in the city.

Internationally acclaimed photographer Arabinda Kumar Mishra hosted the solo exhibition, which was titled ‘Image and Imagination’.

An ensemble of 92 photographs was on display at the show. The images focused on arresting themes such as scenes from nature, expressions and moods of people, wildlife, while others were a reflection of the different techniques Mishra has tried with the lens. While the colours of landscape and wildlife were stunning, some moments captured were intense and intriguing. Some black and white photographs were on display as well.

All the photographs were captivating and highly appreciated by people who thronged the exhibition hall.

“The photographs are amazing. I am surprised to see such fascinating photographs here. Various points of view on life and nature have been presented. All the photographs are very beautiful. There are 24 photographs of the Leh and Ladakh region in the exhibition. They are breathtaking,” said art lover Muralidhar Sethy.

This is the second solo exhibition of Arabinda Mishra in Sambalpur.

Earlier, he had hosted another exhibition in 2005. He has also received the distinction of associate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain, Fellow Federation of Indian Photography and Artist of International Federation of Art Photography.

A retired bank employee, Mishra is a photographer with many feathers in his cap. His 55 photographs have already been exhibited at 25 international salons approved by the international body of photographic federation across seven countries.

Ten of his works were published in the November 1985 issue of the journal of Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. He had also won the best photographer award at Odisha Lalit Kala Academy in 1992.

An elated Mishra said: “Hailing from Sambalpur, I always believe that it is important to hold such exhibitions in my home town. The objective of this show is to attract the youngsters of my city to photography. A majority of the photographs that were displayed at the exhibition are of the Sambalpur region.”

The exhibition concluded yesterday.
