Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9: Two persons, including a three-year-old boy, were killed due to asphyxiation and burn injuries following outbreak of a fire caused by leakage in a cooking gas cylinder.

Two women were injured in the accident.

While one of the women suffered severe burn injuries and was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, the other woman identified as Maina Dalbehera, a widow, is undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital here.

Neighbours informed that the deceased duo was father and son, while the severely injured woman was the child’s mother. They were Dalbehera’s relatives and had come to her house on a visit when the mishap took place.

While the identity of the deceased and the severely injured woman could not be established, sources said the husband and wife would be between the age group of 30 and 35 years. The fire brigade rescued them all and rushed them to hospital where the man and the kid were declared brought dead.

Rohit Kumar, in charge of secretariat fire station, said that after the gas tank had caught fire in the one-room house, one of the guests might have brought it outside where a scooty was parked. The vehicle parked outside the gate caught fire. That in turn spread to the house where the other three were trapped. They were affected by burn injuries and suffocated due to lack of oxygen.

“We rescued them within no time. We immediately hospitalised them as well. But, two were declared brought dead,” said Kumar.
