Balasore, July 23: Balasore MLA Jiban Pradip Dash expressed his displeasure over the “sorry state of affairs” in the district headquarters hospital during a surprise visit today following receipt of complaints serving rotten eggs to the patients.
“The hospital of the district was in disarray. The campus was not clean, the environment unhygienic and the mattresses torn,” Dash told reporters after the visit.
The MLA also noted that the senior doctors, including the chief district medical officer (CDMO) and the additional district medical officer (ADMO), had been found absent. “The ADMO, Navin Chandra Behera, was absent when CDMO Iqbal Ahmed was preoccupied with other official business. I couldn’t get any satisfactory reply from the CDMO regarding absence of ADMO Behera,” he said. Dash said he would bring the issue to the notice of the health minister and other departmental authorities.
“Following compliant of serving of rotten eggs, I paid a surprise visit. I found the hospital in complete disarray,” he said. Ahmed said he would inquire into the incident of serving rotten eggs to the patients. “Rotten eggs were probably supplied by the supplier,” he said. On the absence of ADMO, he said: “Behera had obtained permission for leave over phone.”
