Bhubaneswar, July 12: The state government has warned the management authorities of all colleges that their affiliation would be withdrawn if they fail to adhere to the student admission norms, including admitting more than the sanctioned strength.
Violation of norms related to admission is noticed mostly at the Plus Two level education.
The school and mass education department has prepared a draft bill on this and is waiting for the government's approval. All college authorities have been asked not to enrol more students than their sanctioned strength. "We have found that sometimes, the colleges enrolled more students than the sanctioned strength. As they don't have the required infrastructure, it has come as a major obstacle in imparting quality education to students. The draft bill even has a provision to initiate criminal proceedings against the officials, who violate the rules," said an official of the school and mass education department.
Another problem the government faces is while conducting examinations. "The question papers and answer sheets are prepared taking the sanctioned strength into account. Suddenly when the number of students swell up, it becomes tough for us to streamline the entire examination process," the official said.
According to the new guidelines, even the principal of the college will face suspension if the institution fails to ensure that all the norms regarding admission are followed. "All the college authorities have been asked to enrol the names through the Student Academic Management System. No other system of admission would be valid. The new guidelines have been sent to the government for approval," said higher secondary education director Susil Kumar Sil.
The state government has also asked authorities of all colleges to set up help desks, so that the students and their parents never face any problem at the time of admission.
The government has also made it mandatory for all colleges in the state to put up notices related to admission process on the college display board.
