Cuttack, Aug. 3: Surendranath Mishra, also known as Sura baba, has been found liable for orchestrating attempts from inside the jail to tamper with , fabricate documents and file false affidavits in court by his henchmen to pave the way for his bail.

Orissa High Court made these comments against Sura baba, head of the Trahi Achyut Ashram at Jhinti on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, while refusing to grant him bail for the second time.

Police arrested Sura baba on August 31, 2015. He has since been in jail.

The bail plea related to a case registered against him by the CID-crime branch on the basis of a complaint by a disciple. During hearing on the bail plea, an affidavit was filed by a son of Sura baba, claiming that there had been a compromise with the victim. But it was found that the disciple had gone on record that there was no compromise, and he wanted to prosecute.

Justice S.K. Sahoo observed: "It is clear that even though the petitioner (Sura baba) is in jail custody, attempts are being made to tamper with evidence, fabricate documents and file false affidavits to get bail."
